Ablutions Upgrade Program
Overview
The Ablutions Upgrade Program involves both new constructions and refurbishments of existing ablution facilities, from the settlement out to West End. The initiative addresses the ageing infrastructure, with many facilities over 30 years old and requiring significant improvements.
Accessibility is a key focus of the program, ensuring facilities cater to all visitors. The program also incorporates aesthetic improvements to the surrounding landscapes, contributing to an overall better visitor experience.
Facilities at Oliver Hill, Wadjemup Lighthouse, Visitor Centre, The Basin, West End and Geordie Bay, Longreach Bay, Narrow Neck, and Digby Drive (settlement mall) have been completed.
Upcoming construction
The Henderson Avenue Ablution Upgrade will start in April 2026. The existing amenities will be demolished, and new ablution facilities will be built near the Main Bus Stop precinct.
The building will connect to the existing Changing Places facility, with modifications to the existing roof to ensure seamless integration. Changing Places will be unavailable for a short period during the construction phase. Dates will be shared as the project progresses.
The new building will include a family room, lockers, a charging station, more baby change facilities, and a universal access toilet.
