South Thomson Accommodation
Overview
Diversifying the visitor base and enhancing the visitor experience was a strategic focus area of the Rottnest Island Management Plan (RIMP) 2020-24. A key initiative within this was to refresh and renew existing accommodation options. As such, as one of the most popular spots on the island, the Stay Rottnest self-contained units in South Thomson were identified as a priority location for refurbishment.
Constructed in the 1960s, their renewal and modernisation has been a key focus to help enhance visitor amenity on the island.
While the base level of the accommodation was acceptable, the units themselves were ageing, and the internal fixtures, fittings, cabinetry, and appliances were dated. The aim was to transform the units into a more contemporary style, and make them more attractive—and functional—for a broader range of visitors.
