What is the Overnight School Camp Subsidy?

The Overnight School Camp Subsidy provides an opportunity for more Western Australian public school students to visit Rottnest Island.

The Overnight School Camp Subsidy provides discounts on accommodation in Kingstown Barracks Dormitories, Hostel and Governor Circle accommodation, pedal bike hire from Pedal & Flipper Hire, and educational tours delivered by the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association.

Details including terms and conditions will be made available to participating schools.

Why is the Overnight School Camp Subsidy being offered?

The program makes overnight school camps more affordable and accessible for schools in lower socio-economic areas.

In 2024, 1,533 students from 52 schools across Western Australia received the subsidy and experienced an overnight school camp on Rottnest Island.

School camps are an important part of the school years, and Wadjemup / Rottnest Island offers a unique school camp experience. This subsidy provides many students with the opportunity to visit the island who may not normally be able to do so.

This initiative aligns with a key outcome of the Rottnest Island Management Plan (RIMP) 2023-28 to enhance accessibility to RIA accommodation by supporting low socio-economic government schools to host overnight school camps during off-peak seasons.

How to Apply

Applications are open via the Rottnest Island website from 10 am (AWST) Monday 31 March to 5 pm (AWST) Friday 11 April 2025.
