Important information about infringement notices, appeals and warnings on Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island Authority rangers and Western Australian Police can issue infringement notices for offences under the Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987 and the Rottnest Island Regulations 1988.

If you have received an infringement, here is how to pay it or to lodge an appeal.

How to pay an infringement

Infringements must be paid within 21 days of the date of issue to avoid further action being taken.

If an appeal or payment is not received within 21 days of the date of issue, we may refer the matter to the Fines Enforcement Registry for collection. If the case is referred to the Fines Enforcement Registry for collection, additional fees will be incurred, and you may face suspension of your driver’s licence and/or registration of any vehicles in your name.

The appeal process will then be completed within 14 days of receiving your appeal request and you will be notified in writing of the outcome.

Warning Notices

For less serious offences that can be easily rectified, such as failing to pay admission or marine hire facility fees, a warning notice may be issued explaining what you must do. If you fail to follow the direction of the warning notice, we may issue an infringement.

Warning for non-payment of admission fees / use of marine hire facilities

If you receive a warning for non-payment of admission fees or unauthorised use of a marine hire facility, you must pay the outstanding fees immediately to avoid having an infringement issued.

Payment for these fees can be made online.

All other warnings

If you receive a warning notice for any other offence, the warning notice will provide clear instruction on what you must do. If you fail to follow the directions, an infringement notice may be issued at our discretion.

Please be aware that after a number of warnings, we may choose to issue an infringement.
