Seaplane trial for Rottnest Island
Soon you’ll be able to fly from Perth to Rottnest in just 12 minutes.
Red Baron Seaplanes, formerly Catalina Adventures, has been granted approval to trial seaplane routes from Barrack St Jetty to the island 18km west of Fremantle.
Located on wharf 4 and 5, the seaplanes currently offer scenic tours of Perth.
Rottnest Island Authority chief executive Paolo Amaranti said if the trials were successful the board would consider extending the trials into summer.
“The RIA’s primary concern is safety to tourists visiting Rottnest Island and compliance with noise level controls,” he said.
Red Baron Seaplanes owner Mack McCormack said seaplanes were quieter than helicopters, landing on open water and taxiing to land at idle speed.
