Hard work pays off on favourite holiday island
Rottnest Island has enjoyed one of its biggest years of the past decade, culminating in visitor numbers jumping about one-third in May and June.
Authorities are attributing the increase to improved infrastructure and better focused destination marketing. And good weather.
Figures given to The Weekend West show 331,381 people visited the holiday island in 2014-15 — a 24,382 (7.9 per cent) increase on the previous year.
It included a 4,209 (29.4 per cent) jump in May and a 3,368 (36.6 per cent) increase in June.
Boatie numbers were also up for the year, from 185,000 to 210,000 people (13.5 per cent).
