The Longest Day golf event on Rottnest

On Thursday 30 March 2023, Rottnest Island was the setting for The Longest Day charity event, which saw golf enthusiasts and philanthropists come together for a day of golf and fundraising for cancer research and supportive services.

The Longest Day is a joint initiative between the Cancer Council Australia and the Australian Golf Industry Council. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of cancer as well as to raise funds to support cancer patients and their families.

Over 16 participants had the opportunity on Thursday to tee off at sunrise and play four rounds of golf throughout the course of the day, covering 72 holes. The Longer Day on Friday 31 March attracted over 30 golfers for the 27-hole event.

Alongside golf enthusiasts, cancer survivors and their families were in attendance to show their support for the cause and share a day of healthy competition as participants pushed themselves to complete the challenge.

The Rottnest community played a vital role in the event’s success by generously donating their time, resources, and facilities. Local business including Optus and Tourism WA also contributed to the event, providing essential support and resources to assist in a successful turnout for 2023.

The Longest Day series has been a resounding success so far, raising over $2,000,000. See the Cancer Council’s Longest Day website for more information.
