Board Members

Members of the Rottnest Island Authority are appointed to oversee the management and control of Rottnest Island.

The Board of the Rottnest Island Authority consists of a Chair, appointed by the Governor on the nomination of the Minister for Tourism, and five other members appointed in the same manner. Members are appointed so that not less than one member is:
  • A person experienced in conserving the environment
  • A person experienced in preserving buildings of historic value
  • A person with sound commercial experience, and
  • A person who is a regular user of the Island for recreational purposes
  • Members are appointed for a term not exceeding three years, but from time to time, may be re-appointed. The Minister also appoints a member to be Deputy Chairman.

John Driscoll

Chairman - John Driscoll

John Driscoll was appointed in 2010 and became Chairman in July 2012. He is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Marketforce. John is also Chair to the Senior Advisory Panel of Marketing for the Curtin Business School, past Chairman of the Communications Council of Western Australia, Board Member of Trinity College, and Board Member of Wheelchair Sports WA. John has been holidaying at Rottnest for almost 50 years and is an active member of Rottnest’s boating community. He is a past Committee Member of the Rottnest Channel Swim Association and is a regular competitor in this event.

Rob Mcdonald

Member - Robert McDonald

Rob McDonald was appointed in 2011. He has a Bachelor of Business as well as being a CPA and MAICD. He has broad commercial experience in finance, human resources, policy development and information technology. Rob’s previous employment has been as Executive Director and Director of Finance with WA Police, Chief Executive Officer of the State Supply Commission, and Director, Agency Resources in the State Treasury. Rob is the Board Chair, Ability Centre (formerly the Centre for Cerebral Palsy) and has recently been appointed as interim Board Chair – South Metropolitan Health Service. 
Rob is the Principal of Tiderock Consulting, specialising in management, organisational and financial reviews of government organisations.

Suzanne Hunt

Member - Suzanne Hunt

Suzanne Hunt was first appointed in 2010. She is an architect with over 25 years experience and is principal of a boutique architectural and interior design practice. Suzie has experience in architectural design, documentation, contract administration and strategic management on contemporary and heritage developments in all sectors. Suzie has been involved with architectural conservation and adaptive reuse on the refurbishment of listed industrial buildings into residential apartments. She has worked as the Project Architect for the Fremantle Prison Conservation and Future Use Projects and a Project Leader for the Supreme Court Building and Parliament House studies in Perth.

Dr Marina Hogan

Member - Marina Hogan

Marina co-founded Scoop Publishing in 1997 and has extensive experience in marketing services, arts, events, travel and lifestyle guides. She teaches part-time in the School of Humanities at The University of Western Australia. Marina is deputy chair of the WA Museum, Board of Governors and also chairs its Remuneration and Recruitment Committee. She was chair of the Subiaco Primary School board from 2011 until December 2016 where she was regularly asked, by the Education Department, to speak at various state wide forums on board governance and community engagement. Marina sits on the board of North Metropolitan TAFE where she is a member of the Governance Committee and the Nominations Committee. She joined the Rottnest Island Board in January, 2017.

Dr Peter Hick

Member - Peter Hick

Peter Hick was first appointed in 2011. He is a retired CSIRO Environmental Geoscientist, who specialised in spectral and biophysical research for terrestrial and aquatic environments. He has specialist skills in the understanding of the environmental effects of resource extraction, mining and agriculture and has more than 140 publications. His PhD was awarded in the field of Marine Physics and his recent research has concentrated on the statistics of localised effects of climate. Peter is a yachtsman, keen diver and surfer and enjoys fishing and has published books on sailing and maritime history.

Hamish Beck

Deputy Chairman – Hamish Beck

Hamish Beck was appointed Member and Deputy Chairman in 2016. He is Principal/Managing Director of Beck Advisory, a development advisor and asset management business. His involvement with the property industry spans over 25 years with substantial experience in tourism development, commercial development and asset management of commercial buildings. Hamish is also Chairperson of the Swan River Trust, Member of the Cathedral and Treasury Precinct Civic Space Management, Committee Member of the Ralph and Patricia Sarich Neuroscience Institute Tenant Group. He was formally on the Board, and Chair of the Foundation of the Art Gallery of Western Australia. Hamish is a recreational river and ocean user through sailing, fishing and boating pursuits with a strong interest in Rottnest Island.
