The avid cyclist works for the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) and rides from her home in Burns Beach to the ferry in either Hillarys or Fremantle and back again each day.
“It gets the endorphins going,” Ms Hornsey said.
“I’ve been cycling for four years.
“I took it up because I had a knee reconstruction from playing squash and the surgeon said cycling or swimming would be good exercise.”
The RIA major contracts manager said her department had two bikes available to encourage the team to ride around the island, rather than use the electric cars.
“They get used every day,” Ms Hornsey said.
