Amazing encounter: swimming with dolphins at Rottnest Island captured on video
How good is this?
Spotting a dolphin is always a delight, so when Perth man Jordan Madaschi noticed a few swimming near his boat at Rottnest Island he decided to jump in after them.
To his surprise, when he dived under the water he was among a pod of about 30 of the majestic mammals.
“I dived in without a second thought and as soon as I was below the surface I was surprised to be amongst so many of them,” he said.
“It was amazing to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures.
“I was swimming alongside them like I was part of the pod.”
Mr Madaschi said he had to swim fast to keep up with them, but enjoyed every minute of it.
“I swam and frolicked with them for a little bit before returning back to my brother and dad at the boat with a warm heart and a big smile,” he said.
Mr Madaschi shared the video after filming it mid-February.
This video of dolphins at Shoalwater Bay, near Rockingham, shows how close they come to shore and how trusting they are as they interact with people.
And this video shows dolphins swimming alongside a pet dog who is desperate to play.
But there are signficant risks for dolphins swimming in Perth’s Swan River — and unfortunately, it’s a byproduct of the presence of we humans who seem to love them so much.
