Federer gets up close and personal with Rottnest locals
Tennis superstar Roger Federer visited Rottnest Island on Thursday morning, heading to Parakeet Bay to soak up the sun and warm water.
The 19-time Grand Slam champion, who is representing Switzerland in the 2018 Mastercard Hopman Cup, spent a few hours on Rottnest Island on 28 December.
Federer took in the sights via a helicopter, had a hit of tennis with some kids, helped cook a seafood barbecue and managed to snap a 'quokka selfie' which he shared with his millions of social media followers.
"I was very excited to see a quokka, as we didn't see one last year," he said.
"I thought it would be like a big mouse but it's more like a small kangaroo. It was very sweet."
This is the second time Federer has visited Rottnest Island, with the Swiss star also taking a trip there last summer while he was in Perth for the Hopman Cup.
"It's a great way to start the summer of tennis ... it's a beautiful spot. Just so relaxing to be back [in Perth]," he said.
