Expanded Quokka Birthday back for 2020

Following the success of the inaugural Quokka Birthday last year, the event is back for 2020 with the fun extended for the entire month of September.

The Minister for Tourism the Hon Paul Papalia MLA launched the event at B-Shed in Fremantle on 27 August.

The expanded celebrations to take place on Rottnest Island include:

  • A Quokka Birthday Party every Saturday with free family activities and entertainment;
  • The new Wildlife Wednesday every Wednesday with Quokka and Wildlife Walking Tours, Ranger Talks and Quokka Photography Workshop; and
  • The Quokka Sleepover Party every Friday and Saturday night with bonfires and Quokka twilight tours.

There are also two self-guided activities – Where’s Chokka? and the Quokka Detective Treasure Hunt – available every day through the Quokka Birthday and the school holidays giving visitors the opportunity to discover and learn more about the Island while having the chance to win great prizes.

Same-day travel and admission to the island for children 12 years and under will be free throughout September offering families the perfect chance to see spring quokka joeys emerging from the pouch.

Perth Mint has also joined the party this year with the release of a new limited-edition silver coin featuring the beloved marsupial.

Made from 1oz of 99.99 percent pure silver, the $1 coin is official Australian legal tender and is available for purchase from the Perth Mint and on Rottnest Island.
