7 Of Our Fave WA ANZAC Day Dawn Services

7 of our fave WA ANZAC day dawn services

I think I speak on behalf of all Australians when I say there is nothing quite as moving and stirring as an ANZAC Day dawn service.

Western Australia does ANZAC Day in a big way, and this year there are more than 110 ANZAC Day services being held across our beautiful State.

The biggest and most popular is of course the beautiful Kings Park dawn service, but there are many other spots you can pay tribute to our fallen soldiers.
Here are some of the lesser-known, but equally amazing, ANZAC Day dawn services happening this year.

Rottnest Island
ANZAC Day holds a special place on the Rottnest Island calendar of events. The Island has a long and proud tradition of military service and on ANZAC Day, they commemorate the men and women, both past and present, who have served their country in this moving dawn service. Presided over by Australian Navy Officers, the ceremony starts at 6am on the foreshore as the sun rises over the beautiful waters of Thomson Bay. The service will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast proudly cooked by volunteers.

The City of Fremantle holds a spectacular dawn service perched at the top of Monument Hill. It starts at 5:50am, and two large screens will be installed behind the Monument so that all attendees can clearly see the service.

North Beach
The North Beach dawn service takes place at Charles Riley Reserve on Kitchener Road, commencing at 6am.

If you’ve managed to get Monday off and are planning on heading down to the south west, why not squeeze in a dawn service? The Busselton dawn service starts at 5.45am at the Busselton war memorial followed by a gunfire breakfast at the RSL hall on Rosemary Drive. The parade starts at 8.45am from the top end of Queen St near the tennis courts, and finishes at the Busselton war memorial where the main service will take place.

Rumour has it that the first official dawn service was held in Albany and the community here commemorates ANZAC day like no other. The dawn service is held at the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial on Mt Clarence at 5:30am, with free buses running from Middleton Beach and the Albany Entertainment Centre from 3am—it gets pretty busy so we recommend getting there nice and early. There is also a gunfire breakfast at the Albany Entertainment Centre from 6am and the ANZAC Day Parade runs down York Street from 10am.

The Yanchep tribute kicks off with a dawn service at 5.45am at the Yanchep Two Rocks RSL Sub Branch, followed bya gunfire breakfast. There will then be an ANZAC parade comencing at 11am in Yanchep National Park.

The Mundaring dawn service starts at 6.15am at Blackboy Hill, Greenmount. The service will take place at Chidlow Village Green at 8am with breakfast. The parade will begin at 9.15am followed by morning tea and a military exhibition in Chidlow hall.
